في أميركا الوسطى (المنطقة الواقعة بين قارتي أميركا الشمالية والجنوبية) تقع حدود دولة غواتيمالا مع أربع دول والبحر الكاريبي والمحيط الهادئ. كانت غواتيمالا هي إحدى وجهاتي اللاتينية لعام 2018 بحثًا عن واحدة من أشهر مواقع المايا على أرضها.

على بُعد خمسين كيلومترًا عن مدينة فلوريس تقع تيكال في غابات شمال غواتيمالا المطيرة كواحدة من مواقع حضارة المايا المكتشفة في أربعينات القرن الثامن والمدرجة ضمن مواقع اليونسكو للتراث العالمي منذ عام 1979.
Tikal | City of the Ancient Maya Civilization
Tikal city is located deep in the rainforests of northern Guatemala. It is one of the most significant archaeological sites of Maya civilization which was discovered in the 40s of the 8th century and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. The distance between Flores to Tikal is around 50 km
بالإضافة إلى تشيتشن إيتزا ومايابان كانت تيكال إحدى المدن الكبرى في حضارة المايا والعالم ككل. إذ تعود عمارتها الأثرية إلى القرن الرابع قبل الميلاد، إلا أن تيكال وصلت إلى أوج حضارتها في الفترة من 200 إلى 900 ميلادي. وقدر العلماء عدد سكانها آن ذلك بـ 90 ألف نسمة.
Beside Chichen Itza and Mayapan, Tikal city was a major Maya city which has a long history dating back as far as the 4th century BC. Tikal city flourished between 200 and 900 AD and researchers have found that it was have more than 90 thousand population at that time

يعود تاريخ أول مستوطنة لحضارة المايا إلى 2000 قبل الميلاد ويقدر تـاريـخ حضارتهم بحوالي 3000 ســنــة اسـتقرت فيها حـضـارة المـايا فـي أجـزاء عـدة من مـنطقة أمـيركـا الوسطى كـ غـواتيمالا ، بـلـيز ، هندوراس، إلسلفادور وعدد من الولايات المكسيكية.

The earliest Maya settlements date to around 2000 BC. Their historic term extended to a period of 3000 years. The Ancient Maya occupied a vast area of Central American countries of Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and El Salvador and Mexico
منذ القرن الرابع وحتى مجيء الإسبان تميزت حضارة الـمايا ببناء الأهرامات وفوق قـممها المعابد ومـساكــن الـكـهـان، إذ يوجد في تيكال ما يزيد عن ثلاثة آلاف أثر وبقايا مبانِ من الفترة من 600 قبل الميلاد وحتى 900 بعد الميلاد تشمل بقايا معابد ومساكن ومقابر.
From the fourth century to the Spanish colonization, the Maya were known for the pyramids they built with temples and priests places were held at the top of these pyramids. There are more than 3000 ruins, sites and tombs of the Maya in Tikal from the period between 600 BC to 900 AD

“في يوم الجمعة 21 ديسمبر 2012 سينزل الرب إلى الأرض لتدميرها وبدء حياةٍ جديدة، يموت العالم القديم ويولد العالم الجديد”. هذا ما نص عليه تقويم المايا حول نهاية العالم عند هذا التاريخ وهو ما أحدث حالة من الفزع لكثير من البشر. ولكن خلافًا للاعتقاد الشائع لم يكن للمايا تقويم واحد فقط ، فللمايا 3 تقاويم وأشهرهم هو من توقع نــهــايــة الـعــالــم عــنــد عــــام 2012 ، ولكن العلماء فسروا ذلك ببدء حقبة جديدة بناءً على حسابات متعلقة بحضارة المايا ومعتقداتها وليس نهاية العالم.

On the other hand, The Maya had more than one calendar; they have three calendars and the most known was the one that predicted the end of the world in 2012. End of Mayan Civilization

Since the researchers are not absolutely certain, many possible theories have been proposed, including climatic changes, epidemic diseases and trade problems.
