تحتل صحراء الدناكل 3 مناطق من ثلاث دول وهي الشمال الشرقي لإثيوبيا، جنوب إريتريا وشمال غرب جيبوتي وتعرف أيضًا بـ (المثلث العفاري)
Danakil Desert
The Danakil Depression lies in three different countries which are the northeast of Ethiopia, southern part of Eretria and the northwest of Djibouti. Also known as the Afar Triangle
تبلغ مساحة صحراء الدناكل حوالي 136,956 كيلومتر مربع وتعد من أكثر الأماكن حرارة على وجه الأرض إذ تتجاوز درجة الحرارة فيها نهارًا الـ 50ْ مئوية صيفًا وذلك لانخفاضها الشديد -155م تحت مستوى سطح البحر.
The Danakil Depression covers an area of approximately 136,956 kilometers square. It is one of the hottest places on the earth with temperatures reach higher than 50 Celsius because it is also from the lowest sites -155m below the sea level
يُعرف منخفض الدناكل بالمنخفض الجيولوجي المتنوع التضاريس. أهمها الحمم البركانية، بحيرة الملح، والينابيع الساخنة الصفراء.

Afar People
A people of the Horn of Africa who are Yemeni origins have moved to Africa for a thousand years. Afar is an ancient tribe of the Horn of Africa
يسكن “العفر” منطقة الدناكل، ويسمون بالدناكل نسبةً إلى ملك كان يحكم المثلث العفري: “دنكلي بن ملكان”، ودينهم هو الإسلام، ويعمل أكثرهم في هذه المنطقة على استخراج الملح وتعدينه وبيعه، إذ يُعد الملح هو مصدر الدخل الأول بالنسبة لهم.
Afar people also known as the Danakil; named after Dankli bin Malkan who was the Afar Triangle King. They primarily live in the Danakil Depression. Afar people are relying on producing salt as it the main source of income for them

يقوم السكان منذ قرون طويلة بتعدين الملح ونقله على ظهور الجمال بطريقة تقليدية بطيئة، إلا أن قبائل عفار تفتخر بذلك وبحفاظها على تقاليدها الأصيلة.
Salt Carry
The miners cut out the lumps of salt by hand tools then loading the salt slabs on to camels to be exported. This way is very traditional way but the Afar are very proud of these traditions

وهي قرية ومجتمع سكني صغير يعتمد كلياً على الملح وتجارته، وهي نقطة توقفنا للمبيت ولمعظم قاصدي رحلة الدناكل الطويلة.
Hamed Ela Village
A small village, its inhabitants are relying on salt production. This village is a camp for tourists to stay in for one night before continuing the trip

منطقة ينابيع وحقول كبريتية في وادي دالول، على مسافة بضع كيلومترات من الحدود الإريترية و -130 م تحت مستوى سطح البحر ، حيث تتواجد الحراسة العفرية المسلحة ببنادق الكلاشينكوف حماية للمكان ولنا.
Dallol
The sulfur pools are located in Dallol just a few kilometers from Eritrea and 130 m below sea level. In this place, most Afar people carry Kalashnikov for safety

يعمل النشاط البركاني الجوفي على اخراج المعادن إلى سطح الأرض حيث يظهر الكبريت بكل درجات اللون الأصفر، كما تبدو ترسيبات الحديد باللون الأحمر والبني الداكن.
The volcanic activity releases the minerals to the surface of the earth where sulfur appears in all shades of yellow, and the iron deposits appear in red and dark brown

حقل ملحي في منخفض الدناكل ، تعمل الأمطار والمياه الجوفية على إمداده بالمياه فيبدو للأعين كبحيرة ومرآة.

Lake Karum is a salt lake. The lake turns into mirror when a thin film of water gathers on a vast plain of salt deposits
بركان إرتا أليه
أحد البراكين القليلة النشطة حول العالم، إذ يتسنى للمتسلقين رؤية الحمم ليلًا على مدار العام ولا يعيق ذلك سوى الدخان الكثيف في بعض الأشهر من السنة.
Erta Ale volcano
Erta Ale (Smoking Mountain) is one of the few active volcanoes in the world that gives hikers a chance to see the lava over the year. The only barrier to see the lava is the heavy smoke that emits from the crater in some months
انطلقت رحلة السير مشيًا والتسلق لوصول فوهة البركان ليلًا على أضواء المصابيح لمواجهة الظلام الدامس في مسافة وصلت إلى 14 كيلومترًا صعودًا بصحبة شخص من قبيلة عفار سكان الدناكل. اضطررنا للمبيت بعدها في منطقة خانقة مجاورة للبركان تنبعث منها وحولها الأدخنة والغازات الضارة وتسير على أرضها الجرذان والحشارات.
Hiking to Erta Ale started at night using a flashlight to avoid the very dark road as well as the distance to Erta Ale was around 14 kilometers. With guidance from Afar, we stayed for one night on the top just a few meters next to Erta Ale. Too many insects and rats were in the area as well as the smoke of the volcano was extremely horrible.
